What These Mats Do
Surround-view systems combine live feeds from four cameras ÔÇö front bumper, rear bumper, left mirror, and right mirror ÔÇö into a seamless bird’s-eye composite image. Producing that composite accurately depends on precise calibration: the system must know each camera’s exact location, mounting angle, and field-of-view overlap with adjacent cameras.
The calibration procedure involves placing physical target mats on the ground around the vehicle at defined positions. Each camera reads the mat patterns, and the calibration software uses that data to compute correction values for every camera’s position and orientation. An incorrect pattern, improper placement, or a generic substitute mat will result in a stitched image with distortion, misalignment, or a visible seam at the transition between camera views.
